What are the roles of the
School Advisory Council and the Parent Teacher Council?

Roles and Responsibilities of the School Advisory Council

The School Advisory Council is a consultative body, advisory to the pastor and the administrator. Policies are formulated by the SAC and then officially enacted by the pastor and implemented by the administrator. The duties of the SAC include (but are not limited to):

  1. Establish a mission statement and a strategic plan
  2. Develop plans and means to finance ongoing educational programs
  3. Participate in accordance with Archdiocesan policies in the selection of the principal

Members are appointed by the pastor and serve a three year term.

Roles and Responsibilities of the Parent Teacher Council

All teachers, parents, and guardians of the students of St. Mary's School are invited to participate in the Parent Teacher Council. This organization is intended to be a vehicle by which parents, teachers, pastor, and principal are able to collaborate with one another and thereby develop a faith community. The goals of the PTC include:

  1. To provide occasions for experiencing a sense of community between home and school.
  2. To provide opportunities for parents to express a personal service to the school and for the faculty to express a personal service to the parents.
  3. To offer, through well-planned programs, information of special interest to parents which will assist them in fulfilling their role in the Christian formation of their children.

Activities throughout the year sponsored by the PTC include (but are not limited to):

  • Back to School Picnic
  • Teachers' Luncheons
  • Catholic Schools Week
  • National Teacher Appreciation Week
  • Holiday parties and special classroom events
  • Fall Fest and other fundraising events
