Music Ministry "Among the many signs and symbols used by the Church to celebrate its faith, music is of pre-eminent importance. "Music in Catholic Worship" There are several opportunities to share your musical talents in the parish music ministry. Cantor - ". . . a trained and competent cantor can perform an important ministry by leading the congregation in common sacred song and in responsorial singing." excerpt from The Liturgy Documents. "Music in Catholic Worship" Cantors are called to lead the congregational singing at Sunday liturgies. They rehearse weekly and are scheduled on a rotating basis. Cantors must audition and music-reading skills are important. Adult Choir - The Adult Choir assumes the role of musical leadership at the 9:30 a.m. Sunday Mass. It is comprised of parishioners who are at least 14 years old (7th and 8th graders will be considered on an individual basis) and who attend a weekly Wednesday evening rehearsal. Previous musical experience and/or training is not essential, but is helpful. Handbell Choir - At present there are five handbell choirs; 2 adult and 3 youth. Rehearsal times are available through the music Minister. Requirements for this ministry include a good sense of humor and eye-hand coordination. Prior experience in reading notes, etc. is very helpful, but not absolutely necessary. Funeral Choir - The ministry of this choir is to provide musical leadership for funeral liturgies. Members must, of necessity, be flexible in scheduling. Junior Choir - Children in grades 3 - 8 are eligible for the Youth Choir which sings at Sunday Masses. No audition is required. However, weekly attendance at rehearsal is mandatory. The Junior Choir will work on musical skills and sing at Sunday Mass once a month. Rehearsals will take place on Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Junior Cantor Children who sing at the School Mass. Instrumentalist - at times we will call upon special instrumentalists to enhance our liturgical worship. There is a need for various instruments. Brass, strings, woodwinds, etc. may be listed.
